What can I expect in my first day of work as a nanny?

A Day In The Life Of A Nanny

Depending on the family you work for, a full time nanny job can involve different responsibilities that might vary from day to day, or week to week. Essentially, the job responsibilities of a nanny consist of three main duties: carefully watching over the children; providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for the children; and managing some housekeeping duties including laundry and cooking. If you're trying to find a nanny job, especially if you've never worked as a nanny before, you might be wondering what to expect. What does the typical day in the life of a nanny look like?

Keeping in mind that responsibilities will vary depending on who you work for, the following could look like a typical day for you: Morning: You're up, dressed, and in your car heading to your new job as a nanny. No more nanny job search! Nestled beside you on the passenger seat is a tote bag filled with children's storybooks and everything needed to make awesome hand puppets. Traffic is tight but you've got no worries, you'll make it in plenty of time. Wouldn't want your new employer to be late for work. Midday: Just about finished cleaning up after a nutritious lunch and the kids are getting tired. While they're napping, you'll have time to pick up some toys and clean up after that puppet-making session! Late Afternoon: The parents will soon be home so you finish jotting down a few more notes on the day. The baby was fussy most of the day, but you think she may be cutting teeth. The three-year old was stung by a bee while at the park earlier in the day, but he's fine! There's a lot to do in a day, which means there's no time to surf the Net or text message friends.

Nanny job listings usually just give you an idea of what you'll be expected to do; ultimately, however, your goal is to keep the kids actively engaged and well-cared for.
