Defining Nanny Responsibilities

It’s really important to know the difference between a housekeeper and a nanny. Yes, you can ask your nanny to do some light housekeeping duties, but if you’re expecting the equivalent of “spring cleaning” on a weekly basis, you need to hire a maid. Nanny responsibilities can entail a number of things, but the first one on the list should always be about the children. Naturally, the types of nanny responsibilities will vary depending on the age of the children. If the nanny’s main responsibility is to get the children prepared and off to school, that might actually leave her a fair bit of time to do some housekeeping chores until the kids come home from school. On the other hand, if the nanny is expected to watch over an infant and a toddler all day, she’ll have very little time to keep the house spotless. Keep these scenarios in mind when you’re dishing out the nanny responsibilities. A full time nanny job should always put the interests of the children first. Picking up the toys at the end of the day and getting supper started isn’t too much to ask; scrubbing floors and walls is. The type of nanny responsibilities delegated should always be discussed and agreed upon before signing a nanny contract.
