How much money should I ask for as a part time nanny?

Part Time Nanny Salaries

If you're looking for a part time nanny job to help supplement your household income, there are a few things to keep in mind. If it's been a while since you worked as a nanny, or it's your first time looking for a part time nanny job, do a little salary research before you get to the interview stage. The hiring family will either ask what you charge, or they'll already have a dollar figure in mind. By knowing what you expect to make ahead of time, you'll avoid feeling pressured to take a salary you hadn't really given consideration to. A lot of people have a hard time being straight about the money they expect to earn as a part time nanny. In fact, the question “How much money do you expect to make?” is probably one of the toughest questions at an interview. Be honest! Don't make apologies for your value. Being a full or part time nanny requires a huge amount of responsibility. Part-time nannies can legitimately ask for a few more dollars per hour than a full time nanny. For one thing, there's usually not as much job security for part time nannies, plus you're obviously working fewer hours in the week, but still have to pay your bills and put food on the table. So, think ahead. Do some research and find out what other nannies are making in the neighborhood. As a part-time nanny, don't apologize for asking for a couple dollars more per hour over and above what a full time nanny would typically make.
